Butch the Bluejay.

My sister-in-law and I are working on a children's book together, she is writing it, since it is based on memories from her childhood, and I am illustrating it. It's about a little bluejay that her brother rescued from a trash can when it was a couple of days old. I'm not sure where the rabbit and crab came from, that's what happens when you start drawing and painting, characters start to show up.

Dream Painting in Progress

Still working in different ways than I am used to, patching images together, letting the painting emerge without a concious "pre-conceived" way...working from old drawings, old paintings, and from my dreams, imagination, simultaneous thoughts & experience, using oil sticks & paint, and canvas, from a roll that I can tear off in long sheets and staple to the wall.

Rick Fox - Mentor

Met with Rick Fox on Saturday. He gave me a lot of input and much to think about, looking forward to working with him. He gave me some specific guidelines...recommended looking at Fairfield Porter and reading Porter's book, "ART IN ITS OWN TERMS". Rick mentioned he has clear ways of articulating the issues of organization and formalism. Rick also mentioned Paula Rego, John Walker, Lois Dodd and John Imber.
